Important Update for Summer Exams for Year 11 & 13

26th February 2021

Dear Parents/Carers,

As you will be aware the Government has yesterday released its initial guidance on how students in Years 11 and 13 will be awarded their grades for GCSE, BTEC and A’ Level qualifications this summer.

Over the course of the coming weeks more information will be released to schools providing greater clarity on the process required by schools to take in order to arrive at the final grades. Once we have that information we will look to formulate a plan that ensures that we have a system that is robust, fair and produces a final grade that reflects the attainment of each individual student in all of their subjects.

Our advice at this time is that all students continue to engage in their learning remotely and complete all work to the best of their ability that is set by their class teachers, this includes any pieces of coursework that need to be submitted. On our return to face-to-face learning we will discuss the plans with students to ensure they fully understand the process and what is required of them during the remainder of this academic year.

In order that the process remains fair, robust and credible we would ask that parents/carers do not contact individual members of staff to discuss grades. Our staff have been advised that they should not discuss grades with individual parents/carers or students and that any feedback that is given to students will focus on powerful knowledge gained, misconceptions evident in work and how to address those.

Whilst I appreciate it is an uncertain time for both students and parents please be rest assured that we are working hard to ensure this process will be fair, rigorous and in line with national expectations.

Thank you all for your continued support. Stay safe and stay well.

Yours faithfully,

Mr M Mirza

Vice Principal
